§ 1.3 The substrate

If the body is 4D and the interface renders 3D, what is it that witnesses the rendering?

Beneath the dimension count there is something that has no dimension count. The observing baseline awareness that witnesses the rendered scene is not an object within the scene.

Dimensions, whether one, two, three, four or eleven, are structural coordinates. They describe objects appearing within reality. The awareness that witnesses those coordinates is not itself a coordinate. It is the silent canvas hosting the geometric rendering. The manual denotes it 0D: not because it is a point, but because it is unconditioned by dimension altogether.

This is the layer that is easiest to overlook, because it never appears as content. Every thought, sensation, image and feeling is a rendering on the canvas; the canvas is what all of them have in common and what none of them is.

Three operational facts about the substrate

  1. It is already present. It is not achieved, entered or produced. It is what is witnessing this sentence. Procedures in this manual never create it; they only stop obscuring it.
  2. It is not disturbed by content. An internal monologue, a surge of emotion, a flood of sensory data: each is a rendering. The substrate hosts them and is unperturbed by them (§3.4).
  3. It is shared. Every living node, whatever its aperture configuration, is the same substrate looking out through a different biological lens (§5.5). This fact carries the whole of Part V.
Definition
Substrate (0D baseline awareness)
The unconditioned, non-local awareness that witnesses the rendered interface and is not a rendering. Functionally latent without an aperture: it contains all possibility but produces no experience until localised through a boundary.
Macro-manifold
The infinite, higher-dimensional universe within which every worldline is embedded. The physical substrate in the string-theoretic sense (§2.1); not to be confused with the 0D substrate, which is the witnessing layer.
Trap

Treating the substrate as a destination. The phrase "reaching the baseline state" is shorthand and, taken literally, installs a target that the interface then tries to hit. A target generates prediction error. The correction is in §3.4.
