The aperture is not a passive one-way camera lens. It is an active, bi-directional transducer. Information flows continuously in a dual-directional loop across the Markov blanket.
Inward flow: telemetry and dimensional reduction (perception)
Direction: from the high-dimensional macro-substrate, through the physical sensory apparatus, to the local interface and the underlying baseline awareness. Mechanism: raw, uncompressed field data is filtered, pruned and translated by neurobiology into localised 3D qualia: sounds, colours, spatial forms, felt sensations. This is the intake of empirical telemetry.
Outward flow: active inference and field modulation (action)
Direction: from baseline awareness and local intentionality, through the executive interface, out into the macro-substrate. Mechanism: internal state does not remain inside the head. Intentions, acoustic sounds, physical movements and somatic tone cross the boundary and actively collapse probability fields in the surrounding universe. You project form, order, or entropic noise back into the world.
Why both directions are required
If information only flowed inward, you would be a ghost trapped in a cinema: witnessing reality without the ability to touch it. If information only flowed outward, you would be a broadcasting tower incapable of hearing its environment, completely blind to ground truth. Because the aperture operates bi-directionally, a life is an ongoing real-time conversation between the local node and the total field.
When the aperture becomes transparent (§5.4), the loop reaches its highest efficiency. The inward intake is crystal clear, with zero defensive distortion, which means the outward action vectors are hyper-aligned, low-friction and effective. The node is simultaneously receiving the universe and co-authoring its local rendering.
